Made 2 bedside and 2 lounge side lamps today.

4 × 1.5 meter pieces of curtain rod 16mm diameter. Bunnings.

Cut off a 8cm piece of the curtain rod for the led lamp (cut 2 pieces if you want two lights).

Buy 12 volt Leds from Jaycar, glue it to a piece of round doweling that is placed up inside the piece off 8cm rod.

Piece of wood of the base, drill same size hole as rod in wood.

Drill small holes through the 8 cm peice and drill another hole through the other length of rod where you want the light to be.

Connect leds to a 12 volt DC adapter Bunnings or Jaycar.

Add an inline switch if you want.

Photo, for this one I used a 1.5 meter copper pipe, and two lengths of 8cm black curtain rod 16mm diameter to house the leds

get some plugs $ 7.14 or round doweling

https://www.bunnings.com.au/haron-1-2-flat-round-pine-plugs-25-pack_p6321907

drill a hole through the middle for the LED and then file them down to fit in the curtain rod

The base can be a small piece of wood

I slid it under the couch

if you want it free standing, you will need a larger round wooden base

You can get anything you want at bunnings warehouse and stores.
Walk right in it’s around the back, just a half a mile from the railroad track

There’s a great big door in the front of the house
There’s a little old door in the back
But we can’t have doors in the middle of the house
‘Cause that’s the railroad track

yes, maybe they don’t carry 1.5mm x 4cm bolts

ebay has them.

A tool shop should have them.

Its only 12 volts DC so should be safe these devices don’t get very hot

If in doubt talk to the folks at Jarcar or ask someone in the family or friend who knows

12 volt LED to “Matching Resistor” to 12 volt DC adapter

I used 12 Volt red and black cable all the way

solder the resistor to the longer positive pin on the led Anode, (the shorter pin is the Negative Cathode)

How to Wire Resistor Load in LED Lights

video of how do solder a led to resistor

How To wire LED’s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqM40RamUVg

For the 12 volt led White 3mm LED 4300mCd Round Clear 12VDC use a 1/4 watt 430 ohm resistor

For the White LED 12v dc 5MM CLR 45000MCD CREE use a 300 ohm resistor

Test the LED and resistor with a 12 volt battery first

if you dont want to use a piece of wood to hold the LED

you can use a piece of polymer clay instead

mold it to size and cook it in the oven for a while

polymer clay here

Remember to poke a small hole (for the LED) in the polymer clay before you put the clay in the oven to set.

If you find a single piece of wood for the base is a bit wobbly use a second piece of wood on top of the bottom piece to stabilize the rod it then glue the whole lot together.

I used heat shrink to cover the wires, you can get different size heat shrink at Bunnings or Jaycar, get a smallish size

that’s about it

Talk to you insurance company to see if your covered against 12 volt DC Lamp accidents

:)

The DC adapter has a male 2.1 dc plug

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AU-Plug-Power-Supply-AC-100-240V-to-DC-12V-2A-Power-Adapter-For-LED-Light-Strip-/391864293947?epid=1784074254&hash=item5b3cee9a3b:g:SLQAAOSw66pZkqTI

You can either cut of the plug and wire the red and black cables straight in or use a 2.1 DC female plug like these ones

Perhaps you can help. I have bedside lamp that needs repair and I don’t know how.

The cord comes in through a hole near the bottom of a pottery bottle.

The cord comes out the neck of the bottle through a cork.

The cord out is then connected to, and holds, the lampshade and light bulb.

The problem is that the cork has perished and the weight of the lampshade pulls the electrical cord out of the neck of the bottle so that the lampshade rests at an angle of about 25 degrees off vertical.

If possible, I want to fix it without disconnecting the electrics, which means that any replacement for the cork has to have a slot to fit around the cord rather than a simple hole through the centre. It doesn’t help that the neck of the pottery bottle, being handmade, isn’t perfectly vertical.
