Scientists investigate how different houses and lifestyles affect which bugs live with us

Humans have lived under the same roof with bugs since we first began building shelters 20,000 years ago. Now, scientists are studying how physical factors of our homes—from the floor plan and the number of windows to even how tidy we are—may play a role in the diversity of the multi-legged communities populating the indoor environment.

I could write heaps but I really was of the opinion that others should have known everything I did. Even though there are no bugs in my house. and rarely ever have been.

That is what separates me from you. I accept this and you can’t even see it in yourself.

I think they mean more than just true bugs, hemiptera.

When I think about it, the difference in bug numbers and variety between outside the front door and inside the front door is enormous. Inside the front door is like a desert.

In my house I have, typically or seasonally:
Daddy long legs
Black house spider
Money spider
Three mite species
Two ant species
Lacewings
Vinegar fly
Powder post beetle
Carpet beetle
Clothes moth

With occasional visits by:
Huntsman spider
Foliate jumping spider or similar
Wolf spider or similar
House fly
Fruit Fly
Brown blowfly
Portuguese millipede
Silverfish
Two mosquito species
German cockroach
Australian cockroach
Two small moth species

I could call it Arripis georgianus but that would be vaguely reminiscent of wankery and besides which probably not helpful because it would be outside most peoples’ general knowledge.
