Worth a look (use S’s Mum’s link).
Although I’d say there are still a lot of women doing it pretty tough, in some parts of the World.
When the womens movement started many decades ago it was all about political correct wording.
Changing things like chairman to chairperson etc.
Now that has gone a full 180 degrees, now everything is gender division.
I haven’t read the links, or even what they are about but the sisterhood of old would have insisted this thread be entitled People of Today Only Think They are Doing it Tough.

In the context of the article in the link, that would actually be a perfectly reasonable insistence.
Also I’m not sure that your first statement is really true.

Don’t think so, the article is specifically about women.

I think stuff like womens suffrage and rights of women to education preceded the desire for politically correct language by a bit, my dude.

good manners, sensitivity to cultural norms, has been around since the day dot, repressive aspects also, however intellectual deconstruction and the politics (of equality) related is probably quite recent.
I tend not to use the term political correctness, more psychological correctness, to the extent I use the terms at all, which isn’t much.

But as you said, PC is a new term for something that was happening ages past.
PC is an old term. It has a more extended meaning now.
