It’s how the manuals (keyboards) are coupled. In that video the middle one works the lower one but not vice versa. Gives the sub-octaves I think.

I have an etsy Harmonium. (Upright pump organ) If you ‘pull out all the stops’ octaves will play. It doesn’t have a pedal board. I can onnly assume that what is happening to the pedal board is because of something controlled by a stop.

If I pull out one of the instrumental stops I can only play with in the range of that instrument.

Pipe organs I can listen to, they have their own space and mood etc.

Kind of being like in the mood to look at kaleidoscopes.

My harmonium works by pedalling and that pumps up the bellows. There are some that work by a plunger similar to pumping water. And now there is electrickery.

So I guess it was slaves or servants to work the bellows behind the scenes.

I used to know someone who built his own pipe organ from scratch in his lounge room. The sound was delightfully different to the common church organ. For starters the pipes are much smaller and the net effect was a sound intermediate between that of a clarinet and pan pipes, really pleasant if played by a sensitive pianist.
