Oh yeah, Go Bach.
It’s how the manuals (keyboards) are coupled. In that video the middle one works the lower one but not vice versa. Gives the sub-octaves I think.
I’m not a great fan of the pipes, either bag or organ.

McCartney played Mull of Kintyre the other night with a heap of pipers on the stage.

More the crack type, huh?
-“There you go, little lady.”
— “Oh, I’m sorry, I don’t eat meat.
-“I heard you talking. That’s why I brought you this here. There ain’t no meat in it.”
—“Oh, no meat? You hear that? No meat. Thank you. That’s lovely.”
-“That’s right. It’s all organs.”
It’s all very well to be bagging (no pun intended) McCartney…
but if you starting knocking AC/DC’s bagpipes then there’s going to be trouble.
Mrs Organ Morgan: “Oh, I’m a martyr to music.”
I have an etsy Harmonium. (Upright pump organ) If you ‘pull out all the stops’ octaves will play. It doesn’t have a pedal board. I can onnly assume that what is happening to the pedal board is because of something controlled by a stop.

If I pull out one of the instrumental stops I can only play with in the range of that instrument.

Hang on, hang on.
‘ll bet that is the derivation o ‘pulling out all stops”

I don’t understand some people’s aversion to the pipes.
I suppose it must be something in the jeans.

Bag pipes are not my thing.
Pipe organs I can listen to, they have their own space and mood etc.
Kind of being like in the mood to look at kaleidoscopes.

Both have early earthy sounds.
I know very little about this subject so I can’t contribute much.
I am interested in the mechanics of how it all works, where the wind comes from and so on. How they operated them in the days before electricity.

My harmonium works by pedalling and that pumps up the bellows. There are some that work by a plunger similar to pumping water. And now there is electrickery.

So I guess it was slaves or servants to work the bellows behind the scenes.

Here ya go, Mr Neutrino. The Melbourne Town Hall organ. and all about it
I used to know someone who built his own pipe organ from scratch in his lounge room. The sound was delightfully different to the common church organ. For starters the pipes are much smaller and the net effect was a sound intermediate between that of a clarinet and pan pipes, really pleasant if played by a sensitive pianist.
