we should be up around the 300-400mms for this time of year. I hope the wet comes soon. Outside at the moment there’s big dark clouds coming off the Owen Stanleys, but it all comes to nought down here in the Harbour.

wet season should be well upon us, but what started as a cracker during the first week of November, well it has sorta fizzled out to nothing now. Mind you March and April was pretty wet last year.

yes, but last year by end of Feb we had 47mm, in 2006 it was 151mm, 2005 it was 224mm. I think you can see the trend.

HI Collie:)

I can’t work that out…. what happened to the cyclone over your way??? Once we used to get a deep depression out of them and rain down our way.

That wasn’t a big cyclone. It only made it to Cat3, and fizzled soon after.

A big Cat5 cyclone will get rain your way…

Big cyclones cause mainly economic damage these days. The big oil/gas projects lose about a week’s production and the mines can be affected (they are generally a hundred or more km inland) in they cop a direct hit.

But the Met services, warnings and procedures for those living up there are very very well oiled…

I was in Onslow when Cat 5 cyclone Bobby hit there directly.. If you are in a strong shelter and can wait it out it’s not that bad..

It has just this minute started to rain here again. We have had a couple of dry and very hot days so the rain is welcome. I wish you could all get the amount you need.

No one will be happier than me when we get tank’s ! Just not sure when that will be.

not a puddle in sight here – the ground was thirsty – and the clay had cracks – must go and see if the cracks have closed.

it gets slippery on the surface here.
the previous rain hadn’t soaked in far but this lot was steady enough to start soaking in i reckon.
the garden is looking a tad weedy.

It’s here, now. I just checked on it because it sounds so soft and gentle I thought it may have been sleet – expecting snow overnight and tomorrow morning on the “higher ground” — we’re not the highest around here, but pretty close, so here’s hoping. The kids were locating gloves earlier, just in case.
