broadband internet options
i’m changing from telstra because they only have a 12 gig (unlimited) fee for $70 per month.
dodo has a 5gb service with speed 1.5mbps. is this fast enough?
also has anyone found a good server that they would care to divulged?

Hi Pepe. I’m with Iprimus on a 1 gig plan for a total of $36.32. I buy another gig for $5.41 most months. There are options to buy more to top up your plan. It works fine for me.

I’d love broadband i a way because it would shorten the amount of time i spend here at the computer.

However even if I could get it(6kms outside ADSL range).. the price of it is horrendous and totally unnecessary for me.. My dialup though slow only costs me around a quarter of what broadband would cost.. and probably 10% of what satellite would cost. Meanwhile my taxes rise due to the fact that the government wants to assign money to broadband out of my tax. :(

we are on optus (I think – Mr BG looks after that side of things). Got a package deal when we first signed up which included free local phone calls or something. Anyway it didn’t cost us any more than dial up did at the time due to savings in other areas. With 3 users (used to be 4) broadband is now manditory for us. If we use up our allocation before the end of the month it just slows down to dial up speeds and we don’t get charged any extra.

We’re on iiNet – however we download heaps so we were looking for big download plans, not sure how they are with small download plans.

Westnet has a reputation for really, really good customer service.

I’m with Telstra because only mob who I can get reliable ADSL with here. Other people around here have used other ISsP but have heaps of trouble with dropping out etc. So I just keep on paying the exorbitant prices to guarantee connection

I work for an Internet provider and i can’t get broadband at home but we do sell a Wireless broadband USB stick and it costs $49.00 a month ( last time i looked ) for 5Gig and once you reach your limit it winds down to dial up speed at no extra cost. So if you can use Optus mobiles at home you will be able to use Primus wireless broadband.

We are with Telstra, part of the business deal…I ought to know what the limits are etc, could get back to you on this…however we stick with Telstra as they provide communications services to the rural areas (imperfect tho’ that service may be) whereas Optus and the others couldn’t care less…

Morning pepe. I have heard of people who have signed on with dodo and then changed as soon as possible because it didn’t live up to it’s promise. I suppose the old saying “if it sounds too good to be true it probably is” rings true.

My son is with tpg and is very happy with the service. He gets 50gig for about $35 I think. He is on ADSL2 but that isn’t available everywhere (certainly not here; a couple kms down the road yes, but I seem to be in a bad area for signal. Bad for mobiles too). As I said before I am with Telstra 12gig for $59.95 which is expensive, but it seems to be the only one I can get here, apart from satellite and I rarely have trouble with disconnections like others seem to get. I guess you get what you pay for

sometimes I think that if Optus, etc, spent as much $$$ on expanding it’s coverage / territory as it does on advertising and cold calls, it would have a better chance of competing with Telstra.

And yes, AnneS, we don’t have much problem with Telstra dropouts (what’s a dropout anyway?) …mostly only in Rockhampton where I think there may be an overload problem sometimes with Telstra…sometimes the internet just fails there…like once or twice a year…

I’ll have a look at the accounts over the weekend, but I think Veg Gardener is on the same plan as one of our connections: about $60 for 10gig.

Telstra charges for upload as well as download, so we went for the higher numbers…you can check your usuage meter on the BigPond website…

I’m with optus since ’92, never a prob. 20 gig @64 a month, inc 100 worth of ph calls on the land line. The data allowance doubles for nights eg 40 gig from 12 am to 12 pm.
Never had a single prob.
Then again we are high end users with 4 pcs (inc lappy) and sometimes wall to wall kids on games. Twice in those years the u tubers took us over the limit and we were slowed, but didn’t really notice much difference anyway.

home adsl 1500/256 from adam is $20 cheaper per month than telstra unlimited – actually i only need 5 gig download but the speeds on 5 gig seem slow.

anything I think. Considered “off peak”. We download big stuff like TV shows etc. then as it has less impact on our overall allowance.
