Well since we are on the subject.. :)

I need to get to the shops ASAP to get the next Raymond E Feist book. I don’t read a heck of a lot of sci-fi/fantasy (OH does though) – I don’t mind it as a genre but I completely fell for the Feist books when I started reading them in high school. The more recent books I don’t love as much but now it’s a commitment thing :)

The first book is called Magician – you could try it if you enjoy Harry Potter and want to move on to something a bit more challenging VG – but it is a lot more adult in writing style than Harry Potter.

I love re-reading Pride and Prejudice… every time I read it I still get a physical feeling of suspense about whether everything will work out in the end!

I don’t know :) If you have trouble reading the writing in most books, I have seen a lot of “large print” books at the library – with the writing about twice as big as usual.

Sounds interesting bon…I haven’t read sci-fi for a while. Although I did read a time-travelling one last year which has the same premise as “Lost in Austen” which will be on ABC1 tomorrow night (ie 21st Century female transported to Jane Austen’s time). The one I read was called “By a Lady” by Amanda Elyot and the character befriends Jane Austen rather than ending up in one of her books

Feist is actually Fantasy, not sci-fi, but I like to put sci-fi/fantasy as a lot of people aren’t familiar with fantasy as a genre and think it is an adult thing!

I can’t wait to see Lost in Austen :) Have you read any of the myriad of Pride and Prejudice sequels/versions out there? I have one called “Darcy’s Story” which tells the exact same story but from Darcy’s POV instead of Lizzy’s. I LOVE it, but then again I have read soms “sequels” that were dreadful, too.

Not read, but have listened to (surprise, surprise, on audiobook; lol) “The True Darcy Spirit” by Elizabeth Aston. Tells the story of a distant relative of Fitzwilliam Darcy

Better to start small I think Collie :)

I have never got around to War and Peace, although I have a copy in the house sometime. I keep re-reading Crime and Punishment instead by accident :) (keep forgetting that I have read it already!!)

hehe :) I dressed up for the last book release!! I was a bridesmaid once at a Medieval type wedding, so I have a gorgeous blue velvet medieval dress that I wore. Technically I am a Ravenclaw so it works out :) Not sure if I will take that dress on holidays though, we are already taking our wedding outfits so we can get some more fancy photos!!

It’s…. different. I think I have read it 3 times, and the last two times I just could NOT remember how it ended. I decided last time not to read it again, even if I do forget AGAIN what happens. It’s a good book and an interesting read, but there are so many other books to fit into one’s schedule!

VG – War and Peace is a really big book! Not having read it I can’t say much more than that, but it’s translated from Russian so it would be a bit tricky to get through if you’re not into challenging books I guess.

I really loved Anna Karenina and Eugene Onegin.. although Eugene Onegin has interesting translation issues since it is written as verse!

I went through this massive phase of Russian things when I was a teenager, read lots of fiction and non-fiction stuff. Of course with my memory it’s all gone now, I have only the vaguest bits of ideas still in my head somewhere!

Actually bon that is why I started listening to audiobooks…there were so many classics and interesting books that I wanted to read, but never seemed to get a chance to do so…so I thought listening to audiobooks while driving was a good way to get those stories, with the bonus of those stories really “coming alive” because of the voice characterisations. The only limiting factor in my case is what the library has on hand, because I can’t afford to buy them

I will definitely read it one day Veg :) But I need to wait until I have more time on my hands – I don’t like reading serious novels when I haven’t got much time free as I forget what is going on during the times when I don’t have time to read. When I am back on public transport I will get a lot more reading done.

I used to have huge trouble reading the Horatio Hornblower books on the bus/train – they are so exciting that I almost missed my stop a few times!!

I am also planning to re-read the Patrick O’Brian books sometime soonish – these are the books that the Master & Commander movie was based on. It’s a big commitment though as I think there are about 21 books in all.

Haha, the funny thing is I don’t remember what colour my hair was when I met you!! :D

I have had the most appalling memory since I left high school/uni I guess. I put it down to being tired most of the time, I don’t think your brain really works properly when you’re tired. But the good thing is, I can watch movies several times and read books several times and they’re always as good as the first time when you’ve completely forgotten what happens :D

Nope, never been black :) But I went fairly dark brown/reddish with the henna a few times. I alternate between mousy brown (natural), orangey brown, and bright bright red.

OH has read them – I prefer to stick to nava books rather than military, although I know in the end it’s all about the characters regardless of what they’re doing. I have watched most of the movies with OH, pretty good :)

Paul McGann is awesome!! He was the most fantastic Bush in the Hornblower series. If you have seen Hornblower but not read the books, DEFINITELY get the books. They’re so, so much better, although I like the series for giving me faces to picture while I read the books.

Yea so far have only watched the series. He was good as Bush wasn’t he. Funny though, I wasn’t overly wrapt in his Dr Who

I couldn’t get in to the old Dr Who series, but I love the new ones.

The Hornblower books go for years and years longer than what the TV series shows, and the relationship between Hornblower and Bush is such a joy to read. Second only to Jack and Stephen in Patrick O’Brian’s books.

Awww, I love them all really :)

My favourite character is Professor Snape (no surprise to Anne I suspect! :)) but I have a lot in common with Hermione – I was always the nerdy girl in school, although I would NEVER put my hand up to answer a question :D

Better to start small I think Collie :)

I have never got around to War and Peace, although I have a copy in the house sometime. I keep re-reading Crime and Punishment instead by accident :) (keep forgetting that I have read it already!!)

or read the first page of james joyce’s ‘ullysses’ – and understand it in less than a lifetime.

URK!!

I have read Anna Karina…read it in bits and pieces over a couple of terms then read the whole book for an assignment…was only one in class to tackle this book…got a Distinction (one of a very few :P) but War and Peace! the names get me…I tried to watch the black and white movie, and got a better feel for it…am reading War and Peace in bits and pieces over the years…parts of it are vivid but I do not see the fuss about this book, apart from the sheer size of it…give me Milton’s Paradise Lost over War and Peace any day…

To each his own, tho’, as I know of people who lurve W & P for its own sake…

Well since we are on the subject.. :)

I need to get to the shops ASAP to get the next Raymond E Feist book. I don’t read a heck of a lot of sci-fi/fantasy (OH does though) – I don’t mind it as a genre but I completely fell for the Feist books when I started reading them in high school. The more recent books I don’t love as much but now it’s a commitment thing :)
===

o0o0o another Feist fan =o]

Got into Feist reading his co-authored books with Janny Wurts – Daughter of the Empire, Servant of the Empire & Mistress of the Empire. Local 2ndhand bookshop has quite a few of his books, so I get them when I can =o]

I’m the opposite – I like the later ones. The writing style gets a little more sophisticated and you don’t whizz through them as fast. I always cry my eyes out at the end of the last one sheepish grin

Oh, the empire series is AMAZING. I didn’t read it for a long time after the others as I though, pffft, that’s just a side series, whole different planet… you know ;) The writing is sooooooooo goood. I had heard so much about the intrigue and the politics and I thought I would struggle through it as I usually don’t like that stuff.. but although Magician is still my favourite book, Empire series is my favourite of the little sub-series..es. :D

Gosh, you will be busy then!!

I’m hoping to go to the shops on Friday and get a book I’ve been wanting since it came out. I can’t really read more than one book at a time though, so I will have to put the meditation book I am reading on hold.
