Scientists Show Human Consciousness Could Be a Side Effect of ‘Entropy’

It’s impressive enough that our human brains are made up of the same ‘star stuff’ that forms the Universe, but new research suggests that this might not be the only thing the two have in common.

At first I was inclined to be cynical, but then read:

“They looked at two datasets: first they compared the connectivity patterns when participants were asleep and awake; and then they looked at the difference when five of the epileptic patients were having seizures, and when their brains were in a normal, ‘alert’ state. In both situations, they saw the same trend – the participants’ brains displayed higher entropy when in a fully conscious state.”

Yes, that falls more into the “bleeding obvious” category.

:)

I have a theory it’s a side effect of seesaws, the cognitive equivalent, like there are two ends, one’s going up, and you guessed it, I don’t have to look to know the other ends going down, and my consciousness is settled, watching from the middle.

I call it the the seesaw theory of consciousness.

on a more serious note, to the OP, more specifically

wakeful states might involve more flicker, call it, so might be seen as higher entropy, but over time, in the context of cyclic recessions to sleep states, well, greater structural order may be embedded. Clearly organic life utilizes energy gradients, not just thermal.
