Yar, saw that too,
I checked your weather before posting that.

Except that — at least in the eastern states observing daylight saving — it’s not a blue moon. The full moon happens at 12:27:59am tomorrow morning (EDT; 11.27:59 in Queensland. so it’s blue there.), so at the end of next month there’ll be a blue moon. It will be a super moon, though.
The penumbra will first touch the edge of the moon at 21:52:40 (EDT); the umbra will make contact at 22:48:50. Totality will occur at 23:51:56. The moon will be full at 12:27:59. Totality will stop at 01:07:38, the umbra will leave the moon at 02:11:32, and the penumbra will leave it at 03:07:57.

show me on the doll where the penumbra touched you…

Rising through low cloud this end but it’ll soon be free in the clear sky.
It’s certainly a bright one.
I should be out there playing my tambourine and chanting.

Surely you’d need to get naked and rub blue woad all over your body.

I may be a weirdo but I’m not an exhibitionist.
Yes, we also have a big moon. Very white. I had to stand and wait for a cloud to move past. There is also an unfortunately placed street light. We don’t have a lot of street lights. How did they get this one in the way?

Make sure you slap some moonscreen on before going out into that.

Yes, mine’s parked right next to a street lamp as it rises.
Now basically free of cloud but it’s not blue and there’s no sign of blood at this stage.
Sigh. Cloudy. But I can hear the sea roaring over the hill. Hoping the clouds might clear.

Jeeze. If the sea is roaring over the hill you’ll be swept away, moon or no moon.

Not gunna bother. Full cloud cover and light occasional drizzle here.
No cloud. Clear skies. The moon is eclipsing away.
Fucking idiot across the road is warming up his stupid diesel truck.
It’s rather cold.
Clear as a bell here
Nearly halfway there, not drawing any blood yet.
Another round of shots. Grace is helping me. In between bouts of warming up indoors.

My verandah thermometer says 10 but it always exaggerates, so it’s probably about 8.
I’m loving this cool change.

A pleasantly dull grey-brown globe here.
If anyone had blood that colour they’d be in dire need of a transfusion.
I had to return to the warm house. The cold air is playing havoc with my breathing apparatus.

Yeah. It is a long way from a blood moon.
It’s still getting darker.

If the colour of the moon is related to the sun’s light travelling through our atmosphere, would we get more of an orange, or blood-red, colour if this occurred, say, at the end of a holiday weekend, where there was little or no smog in the air?

I think I might have 1 that is okay. I set the small tripod on the back of the pickup, but my hand was shaking as I pressed the button. Now my allergies have kicked in, aggravated by the cold air :(

The sky is turning blue behind the setting dark pink/brown moon. Low on the horizon and rather pretty. I might have a good photo or 2.
Still getting darker.
You certainly get a lot of eclipse for your money.

Moon’s emerging again now so I think I can leave it to its own devices.
Bubblecar said:
There is an inn, a merry old inn
beneath an old grey hill,
And there they brew a beer so brown
That the Man in the Moon himself came down
One night to drink his fill.
The ostler has a tipsy cat
that plays a five-stringed fiddle;
And up and down he runs his bow,
Now squeaking high, now purring low,
Now sawing in the middle.
The landlord keeps a little dog
that is mighty fond of jokes;
When there’s good cheer among the guests,
He cocks an ear at all the jests
And laughs until he chokes.
They also keep a hornéd cow
as proud as any queen;
But music turns her head like ale,
And makes her wave her tufted tail
and dance upon the green.
And O! the rows of silver dishes
and the store of silver spoons!
For Sunday there’s a special pair,
And these they polish up with care
on Saturday afternoons.
The Man in the Moon was drinking deep,
and the cat began to wail;
A dish and a spoon on the table danced,
The cow in the garden madly pranced,
and the little dog chased his tail.
The Man in the Moon took another mug,
and then rolled beneath his chair;
And there he dozed and dreamed of ale,
Till in the sky the stars were pale,
and dawn was in the air.
Then the ostler said to his tipsy cat:
‘The white horses of the Moon,
They neigh and champ their silver bits;
But their master’s been and drowned his wits,
and the Sun’ll be rising soon!’
So the cat on his fiddle played hey-diddle-diddle,
a jig that would wake the dead:
He squeaked and sawed and quickened the tune,
While the landlord shook the Man in the Moon:
‘It’s after three!’ he said.
They rolled the Man slowly up the hill
and bundled him into the Moon,
While his horses galloped up in rear,
And the cow came capering like a deer,
and a dish ran up with the spoon.
Now quicker the fiddle went deedle-dum-diddle;
the dog began to roar,
The cow and the horses stood on their heads;
The guests all bounded from their beds
and danced upon the floor.
With a ping and a pong the fiddle-strings broke!
the cow jumped over the Moon,
And the little dog laughed to see such fun,
And the Saturday dish went off at a run
with the silver Sunday spoon.
The round Moon rolled behind the hill
as the Sun raised up her head.
She hardly believed her fiery eyes;
For though it was day, to her surprise
they all went back to bed!
Thenks for the full version, quite a while since I’ve seen that.
