The pillaging of the graveyard. The artefacts. The ‘low background steel.’ I seem to be a bit of shock.

in a bit of shock.
How interesting… the salvage of one thing has potential to lead to the understanding, placement and knowledge of another.
The indifference of those cutting stems from ignorance, not lack of compassion

It’s like contesting the landscape. Except it is a seascape.
Why is it more of a concern if it is a WW1 or 2 battlefield in Belgium?

The contested landscape in Europe include those who are farmers. They wish to get back to remediating the land, returning it to fertility and using it for profit. There are those who find the craters romantic or symbolic and wish for them to stay as is. There are those who wish to treat places as cemeteries. There are places that are available to the public after ploughing to see if artefacts can be found. Some artefacts are found by relatives or historians. Others go straight to Ebay.
