Google ‘ SLAM missile ‘ for a really nasty bit of nuclear powered missileering.

Read it then, lovely how the missile was unshielded and left a nice radiation wake
Project Orion was a vastly better thing. It would be a tad difficult to get into orbit with chemical rockets though. It could of course take-off under nuclear power but the fall-out would be unacceptable.

Not only that, but it was intended to fly so fast and so low that the shock wave of its passing by would be likely to flatten buildings and kill people.

I agree with Spiny Nirman.
Did you notice my post about two months ago about a new brand of Nuclear Rockets? It’s the project that morphed into the nuclear power station for Mars settlement.
It’s in this thread. https://tokyo3.org/forums/holiday/topics/9456/
I thought at first that this was the same, but no, this is a collection of nuclear powered rocket engines. Skip to page 18 “Nuclear Thermal Propulsion (NTP) Enhances or Enables Advanced
Space Missions, Including Human Mars Missions” because before that is just an introduction to reactors in genera.
Instead,
This is the techical document for the new mini reactor
Some pretty photos and schematics of internal details in there.
For the first link above – Nuclear Thermal Propulsion is essentially hydrogen monopropellant.
