I think I saw the headlines after she did that last time. There is a posh choccy shop in the middle of Perf CBD.

I bought a few choccy chooks from there.

The Margaret River Chocolate shop ?

Yep….very swish place, but I behaved myself.

Yes it is nice and now you reminded me I’ll go there after work

The chocolate factory on Phillip Island. Avoid. Slow service, limited range, not value for money. Though the full size penguins made entirely of chocolate in the entrance hall are worth a photo.

The chcolate factory at Yarra Glen, always worth a visit. Pick up unlimited free samples of chocolate for starters. Fast service, wide range, value for money.

Yummiest chocolate I have eaten was from Noosa Chocolate Factory.

Unfortunately, they only sell in their store and do not have an on-line shop. Maybe that’s a good thing afterall.

I used to make my own chocolate, and one of the best bits was the smell of the roasting beans. It would permeate the whole house, offering hints of the goodness to follow.

I know two people who got diabetes from eating too much chocolate.

Raw cooking chocolate is my least favourite food.

The issue of Compound vs Couverture Chocolate is a difficult one for me. Properly prepared Couverture Chocolate is much nicer (I could say much deadlier) but it can’t be exported (being heat sensitive) so I actually prefer to buy Compound.

Lindt and Toblerone chocolate used to be, and may still be, worse than average among the Swiss chocolates. But the better brands of Swiss chocolates are much more difficult to find in Australia.

Lindt is generally good quality. So is Cadbury, for that matter.

The Europeans apparently didn’t much like chocolate at first, but drank it for medicinal purposes.

THE NATURAL & MORAL HISTORY OF THE INDIES, FATHER JOSEPH DE ACOSTA. 1590

REPRINTED FROM THE ENGLISH TRANSLATED EDITION OF EDWARD GRIMSTON, 1604.

https://archive.org/stream/naturalmoralhist60acosrich/naturalmoralhist60acosrich_djvu.txt

CHAP. xxn. Of Cacao and Coca.

Although the plantain be the most profitable, yet the Cacao is most esteemed in Mexico, and the Coca in Peru, in which two trees they have great superstition. The Cacao is a fruit little lesse than almonds, yet more fatte, the which being roasted hath no ill taste. It is so much esteemed amongest the Indians (yea and among the Spaniards) that it is one of the richest and the greatest traffickes of New Spaine, for being a drie fruite, and that keepes long without corruption, they carry whole shippes loaden from the province of Guatimala. The last yeare an English Pirat did burne in the Port of Guatulco in New Spaine above a hundred thousand cargoes of Cacao. They vse it instead of money, for with five Cacaos they buy one thing, with thirtie an other, and with a hundred an other, without any contradiction; and they vse to give it to the poore that beg for almes. The chiefe vse of this Cacao, is in a drinke which they call Chocolate, whereof they make great accompt in that Country, foolishly, and without reason, for it is loathsome to such as are not^ acquainted with it, having a skumnie or froth that is very vnpleasant to taste, if they be not very well conceited thereof. Yet it is a drinke very much esteemed among the Indians, where- LlB – Iv with they feast noble men as they passe through their Country. The Spaniards, both men and women, that are
accustomed to the Countrey, are very greedy of this Chocolate. They say they make diverse sortes of it, some hote, some colde, and some temperate, and put therein much of that Chili; yea they make paste thereof, the which they say is good for the stoinacke, and against the catarrh.

I’d rather drink their beer than eat their chocolate. I ate some Belgian chocolate once and suffered from acute mouth problems for several days afterwards. Never again.

They finally priced goode choc. beyond the price I’m willing to pay for it,
but I’ve learnt to beat them at their own game:
I wait until Easter MONDAY
then hit the shops and buy-up their over stock @ 1/2 Price
when they cant sell it to those that are choced-out after binging on SUNDAY.

Until they catch on and stop creating lil foil covered eggs & such I’m set.

If kii is still around:

you were saying the other day that you didn’t feel entirely welcome in that country.

I’ve just rediscovered a remark by Robert Louis Stevenson from a visit of his to the United States:

“Equality, although largely conceived in America, does not extend as far down as the immigrant”.
