Arrgghh! I just discovered that turkeys can jump! We clipped Crystal’s (the white turkey) wing and put her in a 6 ft high fenced run with the chooks, and i keep finding her in my garden munching out on seedlings and squash flowers. And since then have found out that a decent sised turkey can jump well over 6 ft. AAARRRRRGGG! I wont eat her as she is my prime breed stock, so now i have to find a solution to the nightly raids or my pantry will suffer! Wish me luck, Toni.

Electric fencing along the top of the wire fence, about $150 I believe for a 4 X D battery operation…you might need a couple of rows of tapes…

Clipping the wings could work.

a six foot high leap – heck! my chooks can jump about three foot.
make em fatter LOL.
make em scareder – have patrol dogs barking around the perimeter of the fence.

or maybe – cap the fence with horizontal birdnetting stretched to return over the interior of the pen – so they hit their heads on the soft netting when they try to land on the top of the fence.

++++++++++

Sounds good…do you mean they hit the netting and bounce back into the pen?

My mother’s chooks used to fly to the top of an 8’ fence, sit on it, wobble a bit, and then drop down onto the other side…no kidding…they usually were identified and had one wing trimmed…don’t know about turkeys…maybe trim both wings???

Like Pepe said, something to balk them at the top. You might even be able to use a single wire, about a foot inside the fenceline, right along the top. They’ll normally get right up close to the fence before jumping. The wire would then be above its head, so it won’t even attempt the jump. Know what i mean?

yeah, a rebate/return of some kind to deter their highjump attempts…
