This forum seems to have permanently slowed down for me, with posts often taking aaaaages to open when clicked.
Since a few others have reported the same, I thought I’d better start a thread to see if it’s a universal problem, in which case cb88 ought to be informed.
Yes, slowed down considerably here, although it’s not all the time.
Yes, it’s been like that for some weeks here. But I’ve also been losing the wireless NBN modem more often than usual, so I can’t say it’s the forum. Could be our dodgy NBN.
What I get is very slow post openings, but sometimes instantaneous. I get a run of fast ones, and then some slow ones.
I get much slower than usual too.

It is a funny old forum in that it does vary a lot.

There’s an awful lot of hacking and spying going on at the moment. It all uses up bandwidth.

It varies, but often if I click on a post or hit vbt to refresh, it send off the request (in firefox 56 its faster, quantum often is slower anyway) and it hangs for anything up to 5 seconds `waiting for website address to respond’

No forum slow down at all here.
Like the whole of the internet, it’s always been a bit dodgy with good weeks and bad weeks.
But in the past I used to lose posts due to time-outs after pressing “submit”. That used to happen so often that I developed a manual “save” protocol. But I haven’t needed that at all, haven’t lost any posts at all due to time-out since the switch to the new forum format with “upload” button.
In addition, It used to happen that hitting backspace caused a premature “submit” of a near-empty post. I’m glad to say that that never happens any more either.

From the very first forum, I’ve always manually refreshed, so haven’t noticed how auto refresh is going.
i’m happy if things around me slow down.
if whatever stops too, occasionally, that’s not always bad.
shortly i’ll hit submit, you know if this pops up on Wednesday that would impress me. I’d have to think about if I really sent it, or imagined it, then where it had been for two days.
speed and reliability can be annoying at times.
some days the lady reminds me to take my phone to work, in case I have a breakdown, and i’ve been known say that wouldn’t be so bad, a walk home.
I’ve sent an email, and I suggest you do the same.

It’s been loading like a spoonful of cold treacle sliding off a……..spoon.
I thought it was because I live so far away, in a country where the government is trying to restrict people’s access to the outside world.

Hi folks, it should be a bit better now. The forum is sharing a server with some other software and it was running very low on memory.
I’ll see if there’s anything else I can do to speed it up tomorrow – the view by time list is taking almost 3s now.

For me, all the slowdown is because the computers are slowing down under the weight of malware. It’s not just the forum or internet, though it’s worst when the internet is active.

Maybe your computer has a slight infection?
My experience seems consistent with others here (with the exception of mollwoll.) But I’m also on 4G mobile.
I have found this forum has been running much quicker since cb88 did whatever he did a few days ago.

I’ve been having some turgid spells this evening across the internet. Possibly something to do with our village NBN traffic.
Moll, have you done a scan for viruses and malware? Is your computer on its last legs? Run out of memory? Mouse in the cpu (happened to my dad’s computer once)
I missed the discussion last night. Forum has been excellent speed here since cb88 did his thing. We are on NBN wireless. The thingy on our roof talks to the thingy up on Mt Rouse. Direct line of sight.

Amazing.
Was previously downloading at ~17 kBytes/sec.According to task manager that’s 1000 times slower than full speed. On forum, all three panels – top, left and right were timing out.
Now downloading at ~1 MB/sec. According to task manager that’s 140 times slower than full speed. I can live with that.
Oh no, timed out on left panel again. It’s looking like every refresh on the left panel causes a failure when the internet speed is slow.

I was about to post saying that the internet had fixed itself on both computers at the same time. Which suggests it was either an NBN fault or a denial of service attack or a bad modem software update.
But then the forum sent me this message.

Nope. Even with full speed internet the left frame still crashes randomly.
Oh great. Now pressing the “by time” button gives me topics in the left frame and a few latest posts in the right frame.

Turning the monitor upside down then turning it back again usually rearranges things back to normal.
Have you tried clearing the cache, cookies etc.?
My phone does that. My phone sucks…
Now every time I click on a “by time” message in the left column the left column view changes to “by topic”.
