It’s not good. Once when I was camping on the river in NSW and near cotton farms, after dark I was startled to see the inlet I was camped on (larger than an Olympic swimming pool), drain away in just a few minutes. As the water level here was the same as the river absolutely huge amounts of water were being sucked out. After 30 minutes or so water from the river came flooding back, it having been a hot day I went swimming in it despite a strong current caused by the rapid inflow. The landowner (or so he said) turned up in the morning and was surprised and annoyed that I had been there all night. Despite being no fences or signs, plus near the road, he said he owned it and I had no right to be there and the same situation applied for several miles downstream. Legal or not, it was a good example the amount of water that can be removed in a relatively short time and unless you were there like, you would never know.
