I’m afraid “human hibernation” has already been done. In cool regions of Europe, people would pack into bed at the beginning of winter to stay warm, reduce their metabolic rate and eat less. This was a necessity to ensure the winter could be survived.

not so much thinking of hibernation-proper, the idea though, slow it down, perhaps sleep 14hrs a day.

morrison wouldn’t be able to squeeze as much tax from people, granted.

If they were prudent (and fortunate) they’d have a lot of fatty bacon hanging in the loft to help get them through winter, and other stores of dried and cured foods, grain etc.

But while the northern peoples slept the industrious equatorals would be busy building great empires, empires of learning and art joined by highways, quenched by great dams and provided with by vast productive lands protected by a well trained army with titanium swords.
The Zed northern people would fall into an unproductive torpor, wither and die out becoming nothing more than a curiosity to future archaeologists.

A great way to avoid being killed by nerve gas.

Don’t sit down on seats in parks, don’t walk through airports or respond to phone calls from Ivan.
