Too many massive unexplained explosions out there, it’s unsettling.

in the course of just three days, AT2018cow became about 10 times as bright as a normal supernova.

It was extraordinarily bright in all parts of the electromagnetic spectrum – from X-rays to radio waves.

Whereas most supernovae carry spectral signatures called absorption lines, caused by certain elements within them that absorb wavelengths of light, AT2018cow is “surprisingly smooth,”

Blazars have a spectrum that is “surprisingly smooth”. Blazars are black holes so perhaps what we’re seeing is a black hole eating lunch?

Which? Blazars or Black Holes?

I don’t know if you know the history of that name?

Quasars are Quasi-stellar objects

So when a new Quasar-like object was discovered that was even hotter, the first was the “star” previously catalogued as BL Lacertae. So

Blazars are BL Lacertae objects
