Australia Has Nearly Eliminated Mass Shootings — Here’s What The US Can Learn

Meanwhile, the United States has suffered 154 mass shootings (in which four or more people were killed by a lone shooter) in just the last six months. For perspective, we are 178 days into the year, which means the US has had nearly as many mass shootings as days in 2018.

Are there any countries left where there are mass poisonings?

Oh wait, yes, Syria, four incidents from 2013 to 2018.

the second list does not correspond with the supplied definition of (in which four or more people were killed by a lone shooter)

My ‘former-profession curiosity’ is stirred by the Pablo’s night club incident in Hobart.

The reports say ‘about 20’ shots were fired from an SKS rifle (and, thankfully, no-one was hit).

SKS rifles come with an integral 10-round magazine. There’s reports that the firing lasted ‘about 10 seconds’.

Did he reload very quickly (which would be possible, but there’d be some break in the fusillade, and it’d have to be extremely quick indeed), or was the magazine modified?

Interesting that a rifle of a type that hasn’t been available in this country for over twenty years was involved. To me, that suggests links with people who can get such things these days e.g. ‘motorcycle clubs’.

yes

if you want a handgun or similar you’ll go top bikies or other people. out of curiosity years ago i asked how much a handgun would be, a .22 handgun brand new in a box was about 1000. i couldn’t justify the cost to be honest. the only time it would be of any use would be home invasion, you’d pop them, then put a second shot into them whilst hugging them and leave the gun on the floor and call the police (but its time intensive with the paperwork)

“While it’s difficult to say whether the NFA directly led to the drop in mass shootings
and a reduction in gun-related homicides, experts say we can draw some links.”

…that’s a major laugh-line in JJ’s rant: NFA vs NRA
