Melbourne’s withdrawal from hosting left the committee with limited options. Glasgow agreed to take it on, but their conditions were: 10 sports only, we aren’t building any new facilities, and we are not putting any govt money in, take it or leave it.
Some of the regulars dropped were: wrestlin’, hockey, table tennis, triathlon, badminton, rugby 7s, squash, mountain bike, rhythmic gymnastics. (Artistic gymnastics events were still in.)
